TuMe has camp in high altitude practice near Vuaokatti peaks

Hello Orienteerers!

First training for WOC 2013 long distance
After our Jukola performance we are more interested to develop in this sport, maybe in different way. Camp started on Wednesday 05.09, we started from Helsinki airport with Esa's black car - Mazda wagon. It was also interesting to have girls with us.. We had to help these girls to Vuokatti, because they were participating in NORT tour. Somebody has hear that - M. Kyburz won, then T. Gueorgiou and 3rd O. Lundanes (more info in this place).

Moro Esa!

Are you afraid of high altitude terrains? We know that you have tried to climb Koli hill with your friend Rob.Well, I'm not afraid of high altitude. But I've learned that being at high altitude is really serious. Now at this moment when I look at the beautific Mount Voukatti I can hear it whispering "climb me, climb me", but because of my wide knowledge and experience in mountaineering I've learned that you shall not try to achieve things you are not made for. Stay unambitious and  focus only on what you can do. Be realistic and honest to yourself.

Video from your first experience:

Please comment this video!
Well, if you insist. There's really not much to comment. The idea of conquering the famous Mount Koli felt impossible and absurd. But I still count it as an achievement to give it a try. I found my limits and I'm grateful of the experience the mountain gave me.

When were you last time in these Vuokatti terrains for map reading?
Well, two winters ago I was in these terrains giving a try in ski-orienteering, but one of my ski decided to break in 2 pieces..

What does you keep going when you are alone and lost in forest?
Well, Just keep going! When you start to get really exhausted you must consider making a fireplace and a stay for the night. It's always good to have matches in your pocket and a pack of sausages in the bag.

On 09.09 we had competitions (results), is there any excuses, what did TuMe guys do?
Esa and Alina
Well, we had about 6km course and we lost about 10 min to the winner. Well, of course we got some advantage because the winner competed in the whole Nordic O-Tour which ended just a day before this competition. We're very happy to compete.

What's your favourite terrain to have fun and beat all others?
Well, probably at a local snack bar queue.

You have spent couple nights with our World Champion - E. BHertuks, what are you dreaming about, when sleeping?
Well, we haven't been sleeping so much...

Thank you and see you soon in forests!
